Dell Computers

Dell computers are well-known for being innovative and reliable. It's easy to recognize them from their monolithic black clamshell cases and the HAL-inspired "DELL" tab at the front. Most of their models are custom built, so customers have the latitude to match the hardware closely to their needs. Rather than shopping for specific models at a store they offer a website and a call center for filling orders with exact specifications. There are also a few suggested configurations, but tweaking is standard. Dell believes in giving customer input close attention and they incorporate it into their improvement and development strategies. Dell has proven to be very successful with such diversity and by making sure they ride the front of the waves in technology and customer demands. Theirs may not be the cheapest line of computers on the market, but they have a great reputation and many households and businesses have relied on them for years.

It's difficult pin down certain models from Dell computers since there is so much versatility in customizing each machine. Dell does have base models that target homes, gamers, small business, big offices and large scale enterprise servers, and many other electronics items. On the website each of the models comes with a "Customize It" button at the bottom. The basic system for low-end users is the Dimension, with a processor speed around 2.5 GHz and integrated graphics hardware. The system for high-end gamers and power users is the XPS line, with the latest Intel Dual Core CPU running a 3.2 GHz, dual graphics card, and storage capacity up to 1.5 terabytes. The serious computer workhorses are the Dell PowerEdge servers, which are in a completely different league from the home users. These machines are very powerful and are designed to reliably handle a heavy load for a long time. These machines employ multiple processors, call on massive amounts of storage capacity, and run the most powerful and sophisticated software.
